On January 15, we welcomed teachers and students to Fab Lab Reykjavík for an inspiring Mentor–Mentee event as part of the European project FabConnectHer (FCH).🔗 https://fabconnecther.eu/

The goal of the workshop was to bring mentors, teachers, and textile students together to exchange ideas, spark curiosity, and build confidence in exploring new creative technologies. By introducing students to the possibilities of electronics in textile work, the session encouraged them to think beyond traditional boundaries and imagine new forms of expression.

Our guest speaker, Emma Shannon, is an inspiring example of a professional in STEAM. Emma is a Reykjavík‑based textile artist and designer whose work explores the meeting point between technology and textile craft. She currently focuses on e‑textiles for education, art, and performance, and is involved in a wearable‑technology project within the audio engineering department at Háskóli Íslands.

A key part of the event was helping students feel at home in the Fab Lab—reminding them that this is a space where experimentation is encouraged and support is always available. We also emphasized the importance of open communication between students, teachers, and mentors. The curiosity jar activity proved to be a fantastic icebreaker, helping everyone connect in a relaxed and informal way.

In total, around 28 participants joined the workshop, including mentors and teachers, and textile students from FB (Fjölbrautaskólinn í Breiðholti).

A heartfelt thank‑you to everyone who took part. Fab Lab Reykjavík thrives because of the people who come here to create, explore, and inspire—and events like this remind us just how vibrant and innovative our community truly is.
